“When hope is lost, the heart is crushed.”
When someone comes to therapy, it is usually with a feeling that it is no longer possible to solve personal problems on one’s own. Hope is sometimes diminished if not lost all together. There may be a sense of being overwhelmed, or perhaps doubts as to whether there are solutions to be found. It may be difficult to know where to begin. For some people, their search is already focused on one or two critical challenges that need immediate attention and the perspective of a trained professional to arrive at new possibilities. Sharing one’s story in an atmosphere of safety, validation and acceptance empowers individuals to take one step at a time toward health, one day at a time toward a better future.
Helping individuals identify the specific areas they want to address is part of the initial goal of our Counselors in the early process of counseling. Their experience has shown that even small process changes in one’s life can result in a change in one’s thoughts, feelings, experience, and perspective. This enhances one’s sense of competence, confidence, and provides the energy necessary to progress towards further growth. Hope is instilled.
With integrated theories, our therapists draw from a variety of approaches to incorporate what is most helpful for each individual. They tailor their skills and therapeutic interventions to meet their individual client’s needs with understanding and support.
